This winter the Museumplein in Amsterdam is transformed into a winter wonderland. The large pond now functions as an ice rink until the 22nd of January. Everyone is welcome to come and skate in the view of the Rijksmuseum. You can bring you own ice skates, or rent them for 2 hours for € 6,50 (for size 28 – 50). After skating it is possible to have a hot cocoa or mulled wine, or something to eat at the cozy bistro. From mid-December, there will also be an Ice Village Christmas Market to browse and get typical festive Dutch snacks like oliebollen and poffertjes.

Please keep in mind that a covid entry pass (personal QR-code) is mandatory for everyone over 13 years.

Speak the word: online poetry and spoken word writing workshop

This online workshop is open to all levels. During the workshop you will be guided by poets PJ Samuels and nudi. They will also share artwork, poems, and prompts for inspiration. You will be creating some work of your own, but there is no pressure to share what you have written if you don’t want to.

Magical Maastricht

During the festive month of December there are several Christmas fairs across the Netherlands. One of the most enchanting fairs is Magical Maastricht. This fair takes place in of the coziest cities in the very south of the Netherlands. At the large Vrijthof square there is a Christmas market where you can find local products and holiday delicacies. Fun activities include a sheltered ice skating rink, a giant Ferris wheel and a grand carrousel. The enchanting light routes guide you to extraordinary parts of the city with twinkling fairy lights along the way.

NL Cares -Warm Winter Weeks

During the holiday season everyone deserves some extra kindness. Especially for those who are lonely or in need, a little kindness can go a long way. NL Cares is a platform that offers volunteer activities at social institutions near you. There are many different things to do such as decorating Christmas trees, doing arts and crafts with senior citizens, assisting in a Christmas play or cooking for the homeless. This is a nice opportunity to spread the holiday joy in your community!
