Managed – Bruno Maia

Where are you from?
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Where are you now?
Amsterdam, Netherlands

What made you decide to move to the Netherlands?
More than a country the work opportunity offered which was the deep dive into a new economic segment and fast growing market, this company has its HQ based in Amsterdam which was a lovely match. Since Amsterdam offers a very good life standards at same time preserving the layback smaller city lifestyle

What do you think was typically Dutch about your move?
Count each penny on what I would pay on taxes and create a very precise and controlled budget. Dutch are very good at that!

What do you find typically Dutch? Beside bad weather?
Hahahaha The straight forward way of communicating and discussing, although sometimes I feel Dutch gets surprised when foreign shot back as well very straight. As we  like to say in Brazil “who wants to say everything must be ready to hear anything”

If you were to rate your complete move, what would the rating be?
Neutral to good. Amsterdam presents a very high challenge on find the right place to live, not only price the correct place takes a bunch of effort to be identified. Thanks for Expat Management Group full support I was able to reach my goal, Britt an Expat Management Group associated was unstoppable supporting me during this challenging time. I would say without the support of Expat Management Group the moving would present a much bigger challenge. Expat Management Group support during the whole process was the shift from neutral to good. Also I need to praise the very efficiency government system, pretty impressive how fast all governmental “paper work” can be done.

What would you have done differently?
Would negotiate a better relocation package from my employer with longer paid accommodation and lower business trip during the beginning of my work

What has been the best part of your move?
The cool people I’ve meet at my office and the great support offered by Expat Management Group. Of course, the charming Amsterdam channels helps a lot

Any last tips and tricks?
Whenever moving to Amsterdam make sure your employer offers a very good relocation package with desirable 3 months of accommodation paid. That is the average time to proper settle in the city. During this period make sure you have limited travels and some considerable free time to search accommodations, since majority of visiting can be booked only from 9 until 17h
