Where are you from? 

I’m from Stellenbosch, South Africa. Stellenbosch has got a big University where I studied and is surrounded by vineyards and mountains.

Where are you now?

I have settled in Bilthoven with the beautiful Utrechtse Heuvelrug forest close by with some nice fast flowing mountain bike routes – even with no mountains in sight.

What made you decide to move to the Netherlands? 

A great work opportunity, beautiful country and experiencing something new.

What do you think was typically Dutch about your move? 

Everything went smoothly and my move was well organized thanks to EMG. Only thing is that housing is scarce and very expensive.

What do you find typically Dutch?

Bicycles! and lots of them. I love to cycle so I feel at home already. Oh and nice beers I like beers as well. Everyone is also very friendly.

What would you have done differently? 

Bring my dogs with me from the start.

What has been the best part of your move? 

All the new experiences. Everything is an adventure, even going to buy eggs or butter at the grocery store as I don’t know the brands or how it tastes. Its also easy to visit other countries, i’m going to Winterberg bike park in Germany for the weekend, never thought I would say that.

Any last tips and tricks?

As soon as you arrive at your temp housing, download the bunq app and set up Apple Pay. This can be done without a bank card and then you can pay within minutes.
