Where are you from?

Taipei, Taiwan

Where are you now?

Eindhoven, Netherlands.

What made you decide to move to the Netherlands?

Career development, opportunity to live in Europe (for kids also).

What do you think was typically Dutch about your move?

Friendly neighbors. Application forms are easy to fill out, documentations must be within 6 month, need to find own solution (versus hiring help)

What do you find typically Dutch?

People are direct. Can feel a little distant. Everything can be paid piece-by-piece, buying bulk or little cost about the same (seems fair). Seasonal weather. Great produce (and affordable). Fuel is very expensive. Health care doesn’t feel welcoming.

If you were to rate your complete move, what would the rating be?

7/10. mainly due to anxiety caused by uncertainty, would help if just expect things to go wrong

What would you have done differently?

Better preparation for US legal documents (long lead time, poor traceability, importance), plan out personal itinerary for info trip, connecting to other recent expat, open bank account before moving here

What has been the best part of your move?

Info trip was organized very efficiently. Great recommendation of school. Packing, shipping, unpacking of personal belongings were very smooth and timely. Customer service after the move. Nature is easily accessible.

Any last tips and tricks?

Use of temporary housing to apply for BSN, later updating to final address. Driving tips: right of way to cars on your right hand side. Speed limit is low and exact (no margin), insurance is a bit confusing but in the end all about the same, rent/buy a car upon arrival
