New Expat Centre in Maastricht

In the second week of January 2020, Expat Centre Maastricht Region opened its doors as a 1-year pilot. This is the ninth Expat Centre in the Netherlands. Gemeente Maastricht, the IND and Expat Centre Maastricht Region are closely working together on this 1-year pilot.

One stop shop

If you are a highly skilled migrant, EU ICT-er, scientific researcher, start-up entrepreneur or a foreign investor, you and your family will be able to visit the ECMR to complete all formal immigration and registration procedures at one location in one day. The following procedures are offered at the Expat Centre: collecting residence permits, registering with the municipality you will be living in and receiving a personal consultation about living and working in Limburg. A total of 12 municipalities are connected to the Expat Centre: Beek, Beekdaelen, Brunssum, Eijsden-Margraten, Gulpen-Wittem, Heerlen, Kerkrade, Landgraaf, Maastricht, Meerssen, Simpelveld, Stein, Sittard-Geleen, Vaals, Valkenburg & Voerendaal.

Fast track

Internationals moving to the Netherlands and staying longer than 4 months have to register at the municipality where they intend to live. After registration, they will then receive a Burgerservicenummer (BSN), which is the social fiscal number used for salary purposes, insurance and opening a bank account. The legal waiting period for a Burgerservicenummer (BSN) is four weeks. However, it is possible to obtain a BSN within three days of application if the company you work for is a recognised sponsor with the IND. This is called the Fast Track process.
