1. Where are you from?
I am from the south coasts of Turkey but had been living in Gent, Belgium for last 3 years.
2. Where are you now?
I’ve moved Amsterdam just a month ago.
3. What made you decide to move to the Netherlands?
There are couple of reasons but mainly because Amsterdam has an ever growing tech ecosystem, it is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe with its history, artistic heritage, progressive mindset and so on. It was clear to me it will be an interesting journey!
4. What do you think was typically Dutch about your move?
There is no particular point that stands out but I’ve visited a few places with impossibly steep stairs when I was looking for accommodation.
5. What do you find typically Dutch?
Cycling, dykes, flood gates and windmills (or anything that involves taming water), bitterballen and other deep-fried snacks, salty drops, love and hate relationship with the weather.
6. If you were to rate your complete move, what would the rating be?
That would be definitely 9-10. Can’t remember any issues along the way. It was almost boring! 🙂
7. What would you have done differently?
Processes are well studied and well planned so it is an already well established workflow. However if you want me to suggest something, that would be having an online system where you can upload documents and see and track that status of your application.
8. What has been the best part of your move?
I heard a lot about though housing market but things went well with housing as well and I had my permanent accommodation in a short time. Paperwork and practical matters finished relatively sooner than expected so I can enjoy this new adventure with a peaceful mind.
9. Any last tips and tricks?
Weather can (and does) change unpredictably. Make sure to carry an umbrella and a jacket!
